Mustafa Gülec, warehouse manager at ERZET, is part of the project team responsible for implementing the COGLAS WEB WMS at the sister company RVT (RohrVerbindungsTechnik Handelsgesellschaft mbH). Gülec particularly appreciates the software’s ease of use and recognises the benefits COGLAS offers as a partner for businesses of all sizes.

Logistics faces ever-changing challenges that need to be coordinated using warehouse management software. “Our current WMS was no longer sufficient for our company’s future plans,” says Mustafa Gülec, explaining the search for a new WMS provider. “Certain features that are standard today could not be implemented. We were reliant on the skills of our staff for our logistics processes. However, it is no longer acceptable for a WMS to only function if a coordinator is present on site.” This had led to errors in the past that went unnoticed at first. When it came to finding a WMS provider, ERZET Handelsgesellschaft mbh came across COGLAS via the Fraunhofer Institute’s website.

RVT Handelsgesellschaft values COGLAS as a partner for SMEs.

Why did you choose COGLAS?

Mustafa Gülec: The main deciding factor was cost. However, user-friendliness and the amount of information provided on the individual websites also played a part in our decision. Management gave us a free hand in this matter. The decision was made by a project group consisting of four employees from the sales, warehouse and ERP system departments. We used use cases to select which providers were suitable for us. Ultimately, we invited five providers, including COGLAS. The company particularly stood out for its innovative web solution – and ultimately convinced us the most.

How important was the purchase price in your decision?

Mustafa Gülec: You have to take the economic situation into account; the purchase price and the benefits are the deciding factors. There was a huge price difference between COGLAS and the other providers. The latter were geared towards large logistics centres. We are a medium-sized company. We would simply have been one of many small customers. I can well imagine that we would have been overlooked in terms of customer service.

You’ve been using a different WMS for a long time. Didn’t that provider have a better solution for the company to offer?

Mustafa Gülec: Our list of potential providers also included our previous partner, whom we wanted to give another chance. However, the solution they proposed wasn’t suitable, as we would have had to purchase the additional features we needed separately. That was out of the question for us

Why would you recommend other companies to work with COGLAS?

Mustafa Gülec: COGLAS takes care of customer support. COGLAS has many young staff members, which is reflected in the innovative way the software is used. For me personally, the advice I received from Managing Director Hans-Jörg Wildhagen was particularly decisive. Other logistics companies can also benefit from his experience.

What are the benefits of the COGLAS software?

Mustafa Gülec: The user interface, web solution and layout of the COGLAS software are very appealing. With the COGLAS solution, for example, you can print delivery notes and packing lists directly. These are features in which COGLAS is a pioneer. Innovation is a key word here.

Which processes have improved in your company since the COGLAS software was implemented?

Mustafa Gülec: COGLAS has brought a structured system to our previously chaotic warehouse management. The software offers far more options for mapping the goods handling process within its picking strategies. Previously, we were only able to use basic strategies.

How did you manage to get to grips with the software?

Mustafa Gülec: Personally, I decided to familiarise myself with the WEB WMS without assistance from COGLAS. I wanted to test the software myself and try it out independently. The team at COGLAS were always available to answer any questions and responded quickly. We also attended a training session. The learning process within the company has been underway since the beginning of May, but is not yet fully complete.

What has been your experience of mentoring your colleagues?

Mustafa Gülec: Innovation brings not only positive incentives, but negative ones too. It can lead to confusion and resistance. It is particularly difficult to get staff up to speed with innovative approaches. Many are daunted by the challenge and cling too tightly to old processes, with the result that they reject innovation. That has been my experience with my colleagues.

What suggestions for improvement do you have?

Mustafa Gülec: So far, I have nothing but positive things to say. The shop floor implementation of COGLAS is particularly good. This should be further developed, as should information management. The COGLAS software is a standard version that can be used in any logistics company. Updates are provided for every customer every two weeks. That’s what sets COGLAS apart and it’s excellent. However, I would like to see customised solutions for the shop floor.

Would you be interested in helping to set up a COGLAS user group?

Mustafa Gülec: Absolutely. My personal interest lies in establishing contact with other logistics companies and learning about their logistics operations. This can give rise to many ideas that COGLAS can also benefit from. This, in turn, is profitable for the companies. In this way, value chains can be effectively maintained.
