Order picking

Order picking is the crucial step in measuring the performance of the warehouse.

As a comprehensive software solution the COGLAS WMS fulfills all prerequisites for efficient control of order picking and the accompanying flow of information in modern distribution or production centers. In addition the system helps to optimize order picking processes and to reduce their costs.

 

Processing of picking orders (transfer orders) is handled by transfer order management. All usual picking methods can be mapped.

 

The software determines for internal and external users – taking into account master data (length, width, height, weight, etc.) – the number and the state of picking units to be packed and provides the pickers with route-optimized processes. In doing so the software pays attention to the items and order requirements and issue items, for example, according to FIFO or LIFO. Depending on the warehouse topology, order picking takes place in one or more stages. It is also possible to pick orders that have been put together in a meaningful way parallel. In addition to picking, the system can print documents such as spare parts and assembly labels right up to the shipping label for Pick, Pack and Ship.

 

Picking orders can be transmitted via data transmission to the mobile terminals of the order pickers or using the COGLAS Pick-by-Voice technology.

 

The COGLAS WMS simulates the complete process of order picking when the order is received, taking numerous restrictions into account. These include, for example, the pallet type, the packing height and the packing weight. There is also an availability check.

 

The software supports the standard EAN 128 without limitation. The complete documentation of the pallet contents by means of graphics and an amount bill is included. Optimal shipment tracking and quality control is thus guaranteed.

The order management of the COGLAS WMS supports the user during the entire processing of a customer order – from the transmission to the warehouse to the delivery to the customer.

 

The user simply places his orders in the system, which makes them 100% reliable and verifiable.

 

Due to material assignments the software provides the material for orders from stock, initiates processing in time and has the goods transported on time to the delivery locations.

 

If an order includes an additional service, such as a display construction in retail, this production step is planned and executed using order management. The system dynamically and flexibly supplies orders with small quantities or returns them without losing any performance.

 

The basic functions of the warehouse, that are goods receipt, replenishment, goods issue and order picking, continue to run.

 

The processing status is permanently monitored in the control center, where the user can intervene directly. If the warehouse operates a service provider, it charges the service rendered to the customer or customers in a performance-related manner via the storage fee accounting module.

The software books inventories automatically via acknowledgments or via a regular goods receipt posting. The disposal of stocks can be booked at goods issue or after delivery to the end customer.

 

Goods movements between incoming and outgoing goods are stock transfers. The items and quantities for stock transfers can result from evaluations.
These include the filling of fixed bins with replenishment, the need for confectionery items for assortment creation, minimum inventory under-usage and the dynamic stocking of a picking zone depending on the current order structure.

 

At the same time the software organizes the packaging of goods from order picking units to packages and shipping units. It supports all functions that optimize packing processes. These include suggestions regarding carton sizes and packing order, as well as the creation of packing lists.

In the BOM header there is information about its usage. The bill is required in the assembly and kitting area as well as for the selection of alternative items if the basic item is not available. They are also used for packing instructions and handling in connection with certain items.

 

Certain items are saved with their input factors in the BOM items.

 

It is possible to transfer BOMs with a lot size to so-called production orders or customer orders. The BOM resolution is n-stepped and can therefore represent structure BOMs.

The COGLAS WMS stores all possible material flow movements in the database. These movements can be grouped and aggregated by the software according to different criteria and, based on this, determine planned lead times in connection with the key figures for order and goods receipt.

 

In its function as a logistics information system the software calculates key performance indicators (KPIs) online and thus, for example, is able to provide information about currently possible order processing times. Free storage bins as well as the degree of filling of storage units can be determined in a timely manner. Based on these key figures, goods receipt acknowledgments can be compared with the current free storage bins, which makes it possible to identify capacity bottlenecks at an early stage.

 

Based on up-to-date information on the workload with transport orders, the control panel distributes the resources, for example by optimally deploying employees, in order to make all orders available for dispatch on schedule. The parameterization of the logistics system is carried out automatically by the COGLAS resource manager. To ensure that these data are available over the long term, they are archived according to specified time intervals. The software displays the evaluations graphically in a diagram in MS Excel format.

Control panels visualize the state of intralogistics at various levels. The determined key figures can be used both for automatic control of the system and as a basis for manual control. The control panel displays all information up-to-date – for example from the goods receipt area, the order management, the transfer order management and the loading. If threshold values are exceeded or undercut, the software informs the system administrators via email or SMS.

 

This information also can be used to automatically initiate further processes, such as the execution of a pre-planned replenishment transport order.
